Honda Motor Europe officially released the first images of the 2016 Honda CBR 500R. The bike will make its début at the American International Motorcycle Expo in Orlando, Florida.
Honda’s second-generation CBR500R features a fresh, edgier design and several equipment upgrades that promise enhanced sporty performance while retaining all the practical benefits it inherits from the CB500 model family.
Not much has been said about the motorcycle, but according to the company, the new CBR 500R will sport a new look and various new features including LED signatures as well as adjustable front suspension, a larger fuel tank, adjustable brake levers, ‘wave’-style ignition key, and a new shorter exhaust.
Honda’s middleweight CBR was first introduced in 2013. It is built around the 471 cc in-line twin cylinder engine and frame of the CB500 model line, dressed in supersport attire inspired by the CBR600RR. The reliable and economical motor produces 47 hp (35 kW), more than enough for a wide variety of uses and conveniently compliant to the European Unions’ A2 license class. Thanks to its neutral ergonomics and comfortable suspension, the CBR500R has proved itself as a competent commuter, equally efficient over short and long distance touring, with a nice touch of sports performance on the side.
Unveiled at AIMExpo 2015 , the second generation of the CBR500R has a brand new look characterized by the edgy design theme that Honda calls “Aggressive Speed Shape.” Sporting a sharp front face with angled dual LED lights and a shortened, upswept tail, the new CBR500R seems more dynamic and modern. Its appearance hints at several stylistic cues from Honda’s bigger sports bikes, such as the front cowl of the CBR600RR and the tail of the RC213V-S.
Honda hasn’t make any modifications to the powerplant, frame and brakes, opting instead for a selection of upgrades that enhance both every day practicality and sport riding efficiency.
The addition of preload adjustment to the front fork will certainly help riders find a setup to better suit their riding style. New adjustable levers allow for some personalization of the bike’s ergonomics and also provide a high-end feel that is not very common in this capacity segment. The CBR’s sporty side is complemented with a new exhaust muffler that is shorter in size for better mass centralization and, according to Honda “a satisfying low, crisp exhaust note.”
Honda’s press release also refers to a larger fuel tank with hinged cap, yet it does not define the difference in volume … and the Honda USA website displays a tank capacity that appears to be identical to that of the previous model.
Other styling touches include a “wave” style ignition key and three new color schemes: Matte Black Metallic, Millennium Red and Pearl White.
Honda has not yet disclosed any details regarding the new CBR500R’s availability or pricing.
